Elijah Hill was born Oct 20, 1811 in Oley Twp., Berks County, PA. He was the second child
of Johannes Kohler Hill and Catherine Susan Beck. He was baptized Apr 8, 1812 by the Rev. Dr. L.
Frederick Herman of the New Hanover Reformed Church, Montgomery Co., PA. The family moved
from Berks County to a farm near Pottsgrove, Northumberland Co., PA, which was bought by
his father Johannes and grandfather Heinrich Beck on Apr 22, 1815. On Feb 11, 1836, he
married Rebecca Wenrich, daughter of Jacob Wenrich and Emma Reinert. Rebecca's brother Peter
married Mary Ann Hill, a sister of Elijah. Elijah died on Mar 31, 1887, and was buried in the
Harmony Cemetery in Milton, PA.
This picture was probably taken in the 1840s, judging from his youthful appearance. His self-made
baptismal certificate, called a Fraktur, appears in the preceding table of contents.
